This past Tuesday night I decided to try my luck fishing again. I recall as a child, my dad taking my brother and I fishing quite often and how much I enjoyed it. I have not fished since my childhood and it was 3 weeks ago on the 4th of July weekend at my grandma and grandpa’s cabin that I had the opportunity to try my hand again. Being an avid animal lover and pro animal rights activist, fishing is sort of on the fence for me. I decided it would okay, as long as I threw back the fish I caught and watched them swim away. Tuesday night my boyfriend and I borrowed his grandfather’s boat and headed out on the Grand River. We left around seven o’clock and with time slipping away from us, stayed out until about ten when it started to get dark.
We caught about ten fish in all. A few bluegill, a few bass, all of which we threw back. It was a nice peaceful night out on the river. The views were amazing and the river was calm. The reflections of the trees on the water were absolutely breathtaking. Most people who know me would say I am a bit high strung and a little anxious. While fishing this particular evening, I realized that this new found hobby of mine is very therapeutic for me. It seems as though while I am out there on the water, nothing else really matters. I am completely focused on fishing, I think of nothing else and I worry about nothing else. Some of you girls may think fishing is a guy thing, but I invite you to think differently. Anyone who knows me well knows I am the girliest girl there is, and I am loving this new fishing hobby! You can go out there on the river and let your hair down, or “put your hair up!” It doesn’t matter what you are wearing or what you look like, it is peaceful, calming and therapeutic.
I am thankful that so many years ago, my father and I shared this pastime, and who knows, maybe that is why I love coming back to it so much today. In some future posts I will be highlighting hot spots where you can not only go fishing but take your family RV camping as well. I may or may not share all my secret spots, so you will just have to stay tuned to find out!
Until next time, this is SJ from Lakeshore RV Center, signing off…
You can throw your hair up, or leave it down
It really doesn’t matter, when the fish are around
You are out on the river, peaceful and calm
And you get a bite which didn’t take long
You start to feel anxieties fade away
You realize the river is your escape
Starting to wonder why all these years
You’ve given up a hobby that seems to ease your fears?
sounds like fun, but don’t forget the tp….cuz it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!!!
Keep up the good work, I like your writing.
