For many prospective RV buyers, full sized travel trailers or fifth wheels may not be the best option or meet your needs. However, there are many light weight, compact travel trailers on the market that offer a full range of at-home comforts and features typically found in much larger and pricier RVs. The RV industry has embraced the compact travel trailer in recent years – especially when fuel prices and the economy made large RVs less appealing.
If you are shopping for a new RV there are many benefits to choosing a light weight travel trailer:
- Economical and efficient. Many light weight RVs can be towed by most mini-vans and popular SUVs on the road today. Ease of towing means better fuel economy and ease of towing. And you don’t have to upgrade your towing vehicle which can really up the cost of a new RV.
- Light weight = mobile. A compact RV is perfect for the camping couple or family that spends vacations on the move yet wants more comfort than the typical tent and sleeping bag set-up.
- Price. Many light weight trailers come at attractive entry level price tags making them perfect for the rookie RVer.
- Ease of use. Smaller means easier to maintain, easier to store when not in use (they’ll actually fit in your driveway!) and they are easier to pack and unpack before and after vacation.
- Compact encourages enjoying the great outdoors. The modern-day 5th wheel offers an incredible amount of features and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. However, to me that seems beside the point, I would rather be out enjoying the great outdoors than be inside, glued to the TV or computer. But that’s just me.
If you are curious about compact travel trailers and what they have to offer, this week the Lakeshore-RV blog would like to introduce you to the Cherokee Grey Wolf 18RB and the Cherokee Wolf Pup T16B light weight travel trailer floor plans from Forest River.
Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup T16B: The Wolf Pup may be small, but the T16B floor plan offers all the features you want for camping comfort, but does without the excesses. This floor plan comes with a spacious and fully enclosed rear bath with a tub and shower combination – a feature you won’t find in most compact travel trailers. The rear bath is also big enough to feature a linen closet, a stylish vanity with the bathroom sink and an overhead cabinet for additional storage. There is a handy central kitchen with residential style appliances. On the curb side there is a kitchen sink and two-burner stove top with overhead cabinets above. Across the aisle on the road side, there is a nicely proportioned RV-style refrigerator and an accompanying pantry unit big enough to store all your camping supplies. The front living area on this floor plan pulls double duty as it is also utilized as the sleeping area. For day use, there is a comfortable jack-knife sofa and when utilized as sleeping quarters, there is a queen sized Murphy bed. Of course this Cherokee Wolf Pup features light weight construction for ease of use and efficient performance.
Forest River Cherokee Grey Wolf 18RB: The 18RB floor plan is an entry level travel trailer with a single slide that opens up the central living area to provide extra leg room and versatility. The road side slide features an overhead storage shelf above the comfortable sofa couch which also doubles as dining seating when the removable table is set up. On the curb side there is a galley style kitchen with residential style appliances. This kitchen features a refrigerator, three-burner stovetop, dual-basin sink and overhead cabinets with enough space for all your camping supplies. And of course, you can’t forget about the LCD TV mounting space that sits above the pantry cabinet. Up front, there is a partition that separates the front bedroom from the living area. The bedroom features a queen bed, wardrobe storage and overhead cabinet storage space. There is a full-sized rear bathroom with a tub and shower combination, bathroom sink vanity and additional wardrobe storage. This floor plan may be small, but it offers big comfort that just might make you forget you are roughing it.
